How to create a 'Matching Question'.

A matching question enables participants to correctly pair items from one list with corresponding items in a second list. This format is ideal for assessing understanding of relationships such as terms and definitions, products and features, or concepts and descriptions.

Below are the steps to follow in order to create a matching question:

  1. Navigate to EDITOR > LEARNING AND KNOWLEDGE > Questions and Quizzes > Question Bank.
  2. Click on the 'Add New Question' button at the top right corner.

  3. On the 'Create new Question' select the 'Question Type' as ‘Matching’. Also, select the scoring, whether default or partial. Use Default Scoring when the question has only one correct answer. Use Partial Scoring when the question has multiple correct answers. In Partial Scoring, the total score is distributed equally among all correct answer options.

  4. Enter your question in the ‘Question’ field.

  5. Add the left-hand side with an Answer Options as a text, image, video, or audio. By clicking on the Rich Text checkbox, you will be able to add video, audio etc as answer options. Then, add the match element on the right-hand side section. Distractors allow you to add additional answer choices that will come on the right side. This can be useful if you have only a few matching pairs and want to increase selection difficulty.

Answer Options

Add the left-hand side and matching right-hand side options in the 'Answer Options' section.

Additional Match Possibilities(Distractors):

Distractors enable you to include additional answer options that appear on the right-hand side. This feature is particularly useful when there are only a limited number of matching pairs and you want to increase the level of difficulty by requiring more careful selection from participants.

How do the participants see the question?

Once the matching question is created and shared with participants, it will appear on their mobile application in an interactive format. The right-hand options are displayed as drop-down menus, which remain consistent across all items.

A response is considered correct only when the participant selects the correct match for all items. Partial responses are not awarded any marks.
