How to create an action item in the SmartPath

Action items are tasks or checklists that learners must complete as part of the learning journey.


When learners are required to complete specific action items as part of a SmartPath course, you can list those action items within a module. Learners can then mark each action item as complete by selecting the corresponding checkbox once the task is finished. Action items can be marked as completed either by the learner or by the respective manager, based on the configuration set for item.


Since action items must be created within a SmartPath module, you need to either create a new module or select an existing module where the action item will be added.

  1. While creating the Segments, Choose the segment type as Action Item from the available options. Then add a name to your Action Item list.

  1. Upon creating the segment, you will be redirected to the following page, which allows trainers/editors to create and configure your Action Items for the SmartPath module.


  • Action Title : Enter a clear and meaningful title, for your list of action items (for example, Checklist for Onboarding).
  • Description: You can add a brief description on the action item. (optional)
  • Editable By: Define who can mark the action item as completed. This can be set to User (learner) or Manager, based on your requirement.

  1. Creating Groups for Action Item

  • Adding groups to action items is optional. However, if you have a large number of action items for learners to complete, using groups helps organize them more effectively.

  • Group Name: Create groups/category to logically organize multiple action items (for example, Pre-Joining Tasks, Joining Formalities) etc.
  • Group Description : Describe the purpose of the group for better clarity.

You can add multiple groups using the Add Group option.


  1. Creating Action Items

  • Groups: Assign the action item to a specific group/category
  • Action Item Title: Enter the task name that learners will see.
  • Description: Describe the task or activity to be completed.
  • Is Mandatory: Enable this option if the action item must be completed as part of the SmartPath.

Use the Add Action Item button to create multiple action items under the same module.


  1. Click Save to create the action item and make it available within the selected SmartPath module.
