How can I track improvement?
Quiz Analytics Dashboard
The Quiz Analytics Dashboard provides a comprehensive view of quiz performance, learner participation, and engagement across your organization. It tracks both standalone quizzes and quizzes embedded within SmartPaths, giving you a complete picture of knowledge assessment and testing activity.
This dashboard is designed for trainers and editors to monitor quiz completion rates, identify struggling learners, track score trends over time, and make data-driven decisions about knowledge reinforcement needs.
When should you use this
Use the Quiz Analytics Dashboard to:
- Monitor how many learners are actively taking quizzes
- Track overall quiz completion rates across your organization
- Identify which quizzes are most popular or challenging
- Measure average performance scores and trends over time
- Understand when learners are most active with quizzes
- Recognize high performers and identify at-risk learners
- Track certification quiz performance separately
- Analyze score distribution patterns to identify knowledge gaps
- Compare participation rates across different teams, zones, or regions
- Make informed decisions about quiz difficulty, content, or timing
Navigating the dashboard tabs
The Quiz Analytics Dashboard has four main tabs at the top:
- Overview: Shows high-level metrics, performance trends, and recent activity
- Performance: Displays detailed score distributions, pass/fail rates, and certification metrics
- Participation: Tracks engagement patterns, completion status, and usage times
- Learner Management: Provides individual learner insights and categorizes users by performance level
Click each tab to view different aspects of your quiz program's effectiveness.
Time Filters and Applied Filters
At the top of the dashboard, you'll see time range buttons and a Filters option.
To change the time range:
- Click one of the preset buttons (30D or 90D) in the upper-right corner
- Or click the calendar icon to select a custom date range
All metrics across all four tabs update based on the selected time period.
Using Filters: Click the Filters button to access filtering options including:
- Zone
- Team
- Role
- Custom organizational tags
- Specific quizzes
All applied filters affect every tab simultaneously, allowing you to analyze specific segments of your quiz data.
Learner Management Tab
What happens next
After reviewing the Quiz Analytics Dashboard:
Immediate actions:
- Follow up with at-risk learners identified in the Learner Management tab
- Review quizzes with low pass rates in the Popular Quizzes section
- Send reminders for quizzes with low completion rates
- Recognize high performers publicly or privately
Strategic planning:
- Use Score Distribution Analysis to identify organization-wide knowledge gaps
- Analyze Score Distribution Heatmap to allocate training resources by region or team
- Review Retry Success Rates to evaluate if feedback mechanisms are effective
- Examine Peak Usage Time to optimize quiz release schedules
Content improvement:
- For quizzes with very low average scores, review questions for clarity and accuracy
- For quizzes with 100% pass rates, consider increasing difficulty to ensure they're meaningful assessments
- Use Quiz Performance Trend to validate if new training materials are improving scores
Ongoing monitoring:
- Check Active Learners and Total Participation weekly to catch engagement drops early
- Monitor Completion Status to ensure learners are following through on assignments
- Track User Engagement Trend to identify the gap between logins and actual quiz activity
- Review User Segmentation monthly to measure improvement in at-risk learners
The dashboard updates automatically as learners complete quizzes, so you always have access to current data.
Tips and best practices
For engagement:
- If Active Learners is declining, send reminder notifications or make quizzes more visible
- Use Peak Usage Time insights to schedule quiz releases when learners are most active
- Compare Logged-in Users vs. Active Users—a large gap suggests quizzes aren't compelling or visible enough
For performance:
- If Avg Score is below your passing threshold, review training materials or quiz difficulty
- Track Quiz Performance Trend over time—scores should improve after training interventions
- Use Score Distribution Analysis to identify if issues are widespread or isolated
For completion:
- If Completion Rate is below 80%, investigate if quizzes are too long, too difficult, or not prioritized
- Monitor Quiz Completion Status—high "Not Started" percentages suggest learners need reminders
- Check Avg Completion Time—very long times might indicate confusing questions
For learner support:
- Prioritize support for At-Risk Users before they fall further behind
- Use User Performance Overview to identify specific individuals needing help
- Monitor Retry Success Rate—if it's low, learners need better training resources, not just more attempts
For regional insights:
- Use Score Distribution Heatmap to compare performance across zones or teams
- Use Participation Heatmap to identify teams with low engagement
- Share best practices from high-performing regions with struggling ones
Things to know
About the metrics:
- Active Learners counts unique individuals, while Quiz Attempts counts total submissions (including retakes)
- All "vs previous period" percentages compare to an equal-length prior timeframe
- Certification metrics only track quizzes specifically designated as certifications
About score calculations:
- Average scores include all attempts, not just passing attempts
- Retry Success Rate only counts learners who failed initially then passed on a subsequent attempt
- Pass rates are based on the passing threshold set for each quiz (this can vary by quiz)
About completion status:
- "Completed" means the quiz was finished and submitted
- "In Progress" means the quiz was started but not submitted
- "Not Started" means the quiz was assigned but never opened
About time filters:
- Changing the time range (30D, 90D, custom) updates all four tabs simultaneously
- Historical data is preserved, so you can view past performance by adjusting date ranges
About filters:
- You can filter by Zone, Team, Role, custom tags, and specific quizzes
- All applied filters affect all tabs at once
- The Score Distribution Heatmap and Participation Heatmap have their own dropdowns to change the grouping displayed
About learner categorization:
- High Performers: Average score above 80%
- Normal Users: Average score between 51-80%
- At-Risk Users: Average score at or below 50%
- These thresholds may be customizable in your organization
About quiz types:
- This dashboard includes both standalone quizzes and quizzes embedded in SmartPaths
- Certification quizzes are tracked separately in specific metrics
- All quiz types contribute to overall metrics like Active Learners and Quiz Attempts
